Boost your Health this Winter with Honey

While roll neck jumpers and jackets could keep us warm in winter, flu-like symptoms are almost inevitable because of the cold weather.

Other than making your hot tea even more delightful, did you know that honey could also bring amazing benefits to boost your health at this time of the year?

Natural Cough Remedy

A published study reported that honey is an effective natural cough suppressant. In fact, it was found to have a better effect in controlling nighttime coughs compared with over-the-counter medicines that contained the ingredient dextromethorphan. Honey is a time-proven sore throat remedy, too!

How can you make your own all-natural cough suppressant at home? Simply add 2 tbsp. of raw organic honey to a warm herbal tea or water and add a squeeze of lemon. If you prefer, you can also directly eat a spoonful of raw honey.

Energy Booster

The freezing weather can really wear you down. If you require an extra boost so you can accomplish your tasks for the day, a dollop of this golden liquid is all you need. Honey is recognized as a natural power-filled snack because it is rich in carbohydrates that gives the body an immediate and sustained energy boost.

If you’re feeling a little sluggish in the afternoon, try adding half a tablespoon of organic honey with a glass of water and a dash of cinnamon powder to increase your energy.

Keeps Your Skin Moisturized

Winter can take a toll on your skin as the cold temperatures can strip off its moisture and natural oils making the skin feel dry and itchy. Honey can be used to reduce the effects of the harsh winter weather on your skin. For centuries, honey has been used as a skincare product—it is one of Cleopatra’s beauty secret, due to its regenerative, antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

To use it as a facial moisturizer, just spread a generous amount of honey on your face and rub it gently. Allow your skin to absorb the honey for around 10-15 minutes and then rinse it with water.

You can create your own homemade skin lotion, too! In a container, add 1 tbsp. of honey with 1 tbsp. of olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice and combine all the ingredients thoroughly. Apply this mixture to the dry areas of your skin and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wipe off the lotion with a warm washcloth and you’ll be surprised how extra smooth and fresh your skin will be!
